HIS Consultant (ERM/ESM)

Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive HIS Consultant (ERM/ESM) to join our team. This role is critical in supporting the operation, management, and implementation of clinical systems across the organization. The ideal candidate will act as a bridge between clinical end users and IT teams, ensuring smooth system functionality, effective training, and continuous improvement of workflows. The consultant will also lead efforts in clinical transformation, system testing, and deployment of new functionalities.

Key Responsibilities:

Operation and Management Support

  • Provide end-user and helpdesk support for clinical systems, troubleshooting workflow and technology issues.
  • Act as a liaison between clinical staff and IT teams to ensure clear communication and accurate requirement gathering.
  • Manage incident reporting and collaborate with IT analysts to resolve and close system-related issues.
  • Maintain and configure assigned clinical modules, ensuring proper access levels and functionality.
  • Keep IT leadership informed of system changes, upgrades, and workflow impacts.
  • Conduct software testing and evaluate patch upgrades or vendor change requests.
  • Ensure proper documentation procedures for clinical providers and decision support tools.
  • Train end users and maintain updated training materials.
  • Ensure downtime procedures are documented and understood by relevant staff.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by IT or Clinical leadership.

Implementation and Deployment

  • Develop and support current and future workflows, identifying gaps during new implementations.
  • Lead clinical transformation efforts and ensure safe system design and integration.
  • Optimize system usage and recommend workflow improvements based on best practices.
  • Communicate necessary policy changes related to new functionalities or technologies.
  • Align system capabilities with hospital KPIs and support data collection and reporting.
  • Manage downtime requirements and participate in incident logging and resolution.
  • Complete vendor training and participate in relevant projects within defined timelines.

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Medical field.
  • Certification or Master’s in Health Informatics or Hospital Management is a plus (e.g., HIMSS, MSc).

Specialized Skills

  • Ability to train physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff on system workflows and design.
  • Strong skills in evaluating change requests and understanding workflow impacts.
  • Proficient in gathering user requirements and translating them into clear documentation.
  • Experience in process design, configuration, and implementation of clinical applications (e.g., CPOE, Order Sets, Nursing, Physician modules).
  • Ability to research clinical topics and apply best practices to system design.
  • Skilled in logging, monitoring, and resolving service requests and incident tickets.
  • Familiarity with downtime procedures and documentation.
  • Ability to adopt and implement new software solutions.
  • Interest in digital transformation and improving hospital processes.
  • Strong reporting and KPI monitoring capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and committed to timely project delivery.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hospital setting post-certification.
  • Knowledge of hospital operations and interdepartmental workflows.
  • Experience with electronic medical records or clinical applications.
  • Background in healthcare and patient services for at least 2 years.
  • Experience with custom order sets is a plus.
  • Informatics exposure and familiarity with Health Information Systems preferred.
